Movie Posters
Movie posters are significant movie memorabilia items since they allow the comparison of current film making styles with those of days gone by. Many collectors choose to specialise in movie posters as their value tends to increase over time.
Cinema posters are not produced as collectibles, but to advertise a particular film. When the promotion of a film is completed, posters are generally destroyed or returned to the film distributor. This increases the rarity of such posters and hence their appeal to collectors.
Movie memorabilia enthusiasts and collectors need to exercise extreme caution in purchasing cinema posters, as an increasing number of unscrupulous vendors are attempting to pass off reprinted posters as originals. In the case of signed posters, authenticity is particularly important and any purchase should be made from a reputable vendor, willing to certify them as genuine.
This range of movie posters comprises a range of spectacular, large (40" x 27"), hand-signed posters from a selection of popular films and given the competitive pricing seems sure to prove popular with movie memorabilia aficionados. The value of posters is enhanced by their rarity and the popularity of the featured artist(s).
Particularly collectible items include a poster from the 2002, John Woo-directed "Windtalkers," hand-signed by co-star Nicolas Cage. This looks particularly good value, as similar items are significantly more expensive from other vendors. A poster from the 1996 comedy drama "Jack," directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Robin Williams as Jack Powell, a boy who ages 4 times more quickly than usual, also looks good value. It is hand-signed by Robin Williams, Brian Kerwin and Diane Lane and retails at a greatly higher price elsewhere. "The Out of Towners," a 1999 re-make of the 1970 film of the same name, was a box office flop. However, a poster from the film is still eminently collectible, signed by co-stars, Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn, whose autographs are much sought after.
