Film Director Movie Memorabilia
Collectors purchasing signed film posters or other movie associated merchandise have little chance of recognising all their favourite film directors' autographs, especially as signatures can vary widely, dependent on the circumstances. Although it is a good idea to become familiar with a celebrity's signature before buying, this can be a difficult process. In any case, very good forgers can produce signatures capable of fooling the experienced eye. Perhaps the best advice is for the prospective purchaser to investigate the seller rather than the item. Honest dealers will display their name, location and contact details prominently on their website.
Oscars
Industry experts estimate that 150 Oscars have been sold since the first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929; about half being black-market sales involving pre-1950 statuettes, realising as much as $1.5 million on the memorabilia market. Prices are lower for later Oscars as resale is difficult, but a famous director's Oscar rarely realises under $50,000.
Animation Movie Memorabilia
Tracking down old cartoon shows can be a fun way to indulge in nostalgia, share childhood memories with the younger generation and compile a collection of animation memorabilia. From Disney to "Looney Tunes" or "Tom and Jerry" there are a variety of ways in which to locate and / or buy these old favourites. Animation collectibles are far from restricted to the oldies. There is a thriving market in, for example, Simpsons collectibles including limited edition or out of print Simpsons art. As with many film genres, film cells are also popular and signed memorabilia is always in demand. Other popular series include the Flintstones, Scooby Doo from the Hanna-Barbera stable; Marvel's Spiderman; and of course a list of Disney animated releases from the 1937 release of Snow White through to the latest incarnation of Toy Story.
