Gold Single Displays - Letter B
The 'B' sub-category of gold discs and records contains a fairly wide array of bands and artists. Featuring the original CDs and cover art/sleeve art of their corresponding singles, these gold records come packaged in a plexiglass-covered, gold aluminium frame and make for an eye-catching, affordable piece of music memorabilia.
American R&B and pop singer Beyoncé Giselle Knowles, otherwise known as the lead singer of Destiny's Child, released her debut solo album, 'Dangerously in Love' in 2003 to mass commercial acclaim. Following the group's disbandment in 2005, she embarked on an extremely successful solo career, earning numerous accolades in the process - including 13 Grammys, six of which were awarded in a single night. Beyonce is ranked by Forbes magazine as no. 2 in their list of the 100 most powerful and influential celebrities in the world. Currently she has two gold records included in the 'B' sub-category: 'Baby Boy', in which she duets with Jamaican Dancehall rapper Sean Paul and 'Me, Myself and I'. Both singles were taken from her 2003 debut and charted at no. 1 and no. 4 respectively in the US Billboard Hot 100. The former single was also certified platinum in Australia and America.
London indie rock group Bloc Party were formed by friends Kele Okereke and Russell Lissack whilst at the 1999 Reading Festival. After enlisting bassist Gordon Moakes and drummer Matt Tong, the band recorded two EPs before gaining the attention of the British public with their platinum-selling debut album, 'Silent Alarm'. Taken from their 'Little Thoughts EP' (released in 2004 only months after their first, self-titled EP) and released as a double A-side, 'Little Thoughts/Tulips' proved to be a minor commercial success earning them one of the group's first certified gold discs. This peaked at no. 38 in the UK Singles Chart - also charting in Sweden at no. 53.
