Gold Single Displays - Letter G
The selection of certified gold discs in the 'G' sub-category is varied enough to cater for most musical tastes and each comes with its corresponding cover art and original CD. Eye-catching and highly collectable, these gold records and discs make for an attractive yet inexpensive piece of music memorabilia.
The animated musical project Gorillaz was formed in 1998 by Damon Albarn, former lead singer of alternative rockers Blur. Featuring a cast of fictional band members and real-life collaborators, the group has enjoyed worldwide success and accumulated many gold discs since their inception in 2001. Taken from their eponymous 2001 debut and 2005 sophomore album 'Demon Days,' 'Rock the House' and 'Kids with Guns' peaked at no. 18 and no. 27 respectively in the UK singles chart.
Another British group with two gold records in the 'G' sub-category are London-based, electronic duo Goldfrapp. The group was formed in 1999 by Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory and they have released four albums to date, touching on genres such as electro, synthpop and glam-rock. Taken from their platinum-selling third album 'Supernature,' 'Number 1' was released in 2005 and became a number one hit in the US Hot Dance Club and Dance Singles charts. 'Fly Me Away' was released the following year and although it failed to replicate the same degree of stateside chart success, it still reached no. 6 in the US Hot Dance Club Songs and no. 26 in the UK Singles Chart.
Also featured is 'Stunt 101' by New York rap collective G-Unit. The group, who are perhaps better known for their founding member 50 Cent, released 'Stunt 101' in 2003; the first single to be taken from their debut album 'Beg for Mercy.' The song was particularly well received in America, where it peaked at no. 5 in the Hot Rap Tracks chart and no. 7 in the Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Songs.
