Hertford band Deep Purple were pioneers of hard rock and heavy metal, whilst incorporating elements of classical, pop and progressive rock music. Amongst the signed gold records in the "D" sub-category is their 1970 release, "Deep Purple in Rock." It was the band's breakthrough European album, reaching no.4 in the UK Album Charts and achieving silver certification from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for 60,000 sales. Although never reaching the top 150 of the US Albums Charts, it received a gold award from the Record Industry Association of America (RIAA), for sales exceeding half a million copies.
Tennessee- born Dolly Parton, singer-songwriter, actress and author has enjoyed monumental success in the genres of bluegrass and country music, since her chart debut in 1965. Renowned for her characteristic soprano voice, Parton is also an accomplished instrumentalist, showing proficiency on numerous instruments. Since her chart debut in 1965, "The Queen of Country Music" boasts a record 41 top 10 US country albums. With 25 singles / albums awarded the status of gold discs (or higher certification) by the RIAA, worldwide career sales are reported to have exceeded 150 million. Her 2007 compilation album, "The Very Best of Dolly Parton" reached no. 8 in the UK Album Charts, with worldwide sales exceeding half a million copies and seems a sure fire winner with collectors.
Newcastle rock band, Dire Straits, with the driving force of "guitar maestro" Mark Knopfler, were hugely successful from 1977-1995. Their eponymously-named debut album achieved dual-platinum status in both the UK and USA. Total worldwide album sales have exceeded 120 million. Amongst the displays on offer, their 1982 "Love Over Gold" album, which topped the UK Album Charts, achieving dual-platinum status, along with RIAA gold certification, is likely to be much sought-after.
