Gold Discs, Record Signed - Letter V
The discs in these displays are expertly electroplated, so will not crack or peel like inferior products. The "V" sub-category of gold discs and records is somewhat sparsely populated, but its content seems a sure fire hit with collectors.
Belfast-born, idiosyncratic singer / songwriter Van "The Man" Morrison, OBE (born George Ivan Morrison) has enjoyed 5 decades of worldwide success with his combination of blues, R&B, folk, rock and roll, jazz and country music, producing numerous gold discs. The multiple award-winning performer has received 6 Grammy Awards and a Brit Award along with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Irish Music Hall of Fame. Amongst his signed gold records, his May 2005 release, "Magic Time," seems certain to prove popular with collectors. His 31st album, encompassing a variety of styles, from Celtic rock to R&B and blues, entered the US Billboard 200 at no. 25 and the UK Albums Charts at no.3, his best performing studio album. According to Nielsen SoundScan, "Magic Time" has sold over ¼ million copies in the USA by the end of 2005, being ranked at no. 17 in "Rolling Stone" magazines "Top 50 Records of 2005."
A possible future inclusion in the "V" sub-category of signed gold records is "Solitude Standing," the 2nd album by Californian rocker, Suzanne Vega. Although released in April 1987, many of the tracks had been written prior to this date. Vega's most successful album to date, it peaked at no. 2 in the UK Albums Charts, achieving gold certification from the British Phonographic Industry as soon as May 1987 and platinum status by June of the same year. It was also successful in North America, reaching no. 11 in the US Billboard 200 and achieving platinum status from the Canadian Recording Industry Association by September 1987. It was eventually certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in October 1997.
