Guitar maestro, Eric Clapton, made a name for himself as lead guitarist in The Yardbirds and power trio/supergroup Cream, amongst others. He then embarked on a lengthy and extremely successful solo career spanning over 30 years. This artist has only released four songs in the last two decades; but 'Motherless Child,' whilst only charting at no. 63 in Britain, was an unexpected success in Canada where it peaked at no. 9 in the singles chart.
Singer / songwriter Reginald Kenneth Dwight, better known to many as Sir Elton Hercules John, has amassed record sales in excess of 250 million as well as countless gold records in a career spanning 60 years. Another unexpected hit, 'This Train Don't Stop There Anymore' broke the top 40 at no. 24 in the UK and no. 10 in the American Adult Contemporary charts.
Alternative rockers Echo & the Bunnymen were formed in Liverpool in 1978 by core members Ian McCulloch and Will Sergeant. The group enjoyed a long period of mainstream success in the 1980s and are still currently active. 'In the Margins,' one of their most recent singles and the second to be taken from their 2005 album 'Siberia,' sold in excess of half a million units - despite having little impact on the UK singles chart, becoming the latest in a line of innumerable gold discs.
