The Scottish/American rock band Garbage, formed in Wisconsin in the mid 1990s, consists of American musicians Butch Vig, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and the Scottish singer Shirley Manson. Over the years the band has achieved substantial critical acclaim with international album sales in excess of 14 million. Some of the most successful singles were released in 1995 and 1996; the hit 'Stupid Girl' is probably their most famous single to date. Their debut album, which goes by the same name as their act, achieved double platinum status in the UK, Australia and USA and sold more than 4 million copies. In the MTV Europe Music Awards (1996) Garbage also won the award for Breakthrough Artist.
