'Yes' are a London-based progressive rock band that have been together for over 40 years, a rare feat in the music industry. Their blend of classic and symphonic structures has earned them a solid reputation, as have the notably high-register vocal abilities of John Anderson, the lead singer.
The band has included a whole succession of notable guitarists, including Steve Howe, Billy Sherwood, Trevor Rabin and Peter Banks. Notable drum players have included Alan White and Bill Bruford. Their keyboard players have comprised Patrick Moraz, Tony Kaye and Geoff Downes, among others. 'Yes' have sold in excess of 30 million records globally in the last four decades. Band members Howe, Square and White are currently touring, along with their keyboardist Oliver Wakeman and the vocalist Benoît David. Over the years the band has released a total of 19 studio albums, 10 live albums and 31 compilation albums.
Yngwie Johann Malmsteen, a Swedish composer, guitarist, bandleader and multi-instrumentalist was noted for his technical genius and neo-classical compositions in the 1980s. Four of his albums include Rising Force, Trilogy, Odyssey and Marching Out and each reached the top 100 albums of the US Billboard 200. Malmsteen is widely regarded for his unusually fast guitar solos and use of the harmonic minor scale. His influence is drawn from great composers such as Beethoven and Bach and in an interview he once described how he tries to move away from the pentatonic scales associated with the blues. In the summer of 2009, Time Magazines ranked Malmsteen as the ninth best electric guitar player of all time
